Jon Jones recorded a famous heart-felt genuine win for the ages in New York this weekend that stunned sports fans the world over.
So much so many including UFC boss Dana White said they believe he’s the best fighter ever in the history of fighting after the fight.
Speaking straight after the fight in the cage Jones said:
“Interviewer: Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here with the greatest of all time, Jon Jones. Once again, you did it—you defended your title against the most accomplished heavyweight ever. You just said to me, “He’s good.” Yeah, he’s really, really good. He’s tough, he’s durable. I was hitting him with some pretty decent shots, and man, he just kept coming forward. I know a lot of guys have fought against Stipe before, and we all have that in common: it was like fighting the Terminator. Very, very discouraging to hit somebody who’s not reacting to it, but that body shot, man—no matter how tough you are, the liver’s the liver. Well, it was on the other side, but let’s take a look at it. It was a beautiful shot. You hit him with your left kick, a spinning back kick to the body, perfectly placed on the rib cage. I mean, you hit him with a lot of body kicks in this fight. Was that something you had planned on coming in?
Jon Jones: Yeah, absolutely. Everyone knows that Stipe Miocic isn’t the biggest heavyweight, but he always comes in lean and in great cardio shape. I mean, I’ve watched him have wars with Daniel Cormier and a lot of other guys where they just rock ’em, sock ’em. He doesn’t react much to getting punched in the face. So our plan was to try to attack the body a little more. I was hoping to get him out in the first round, but he hung in there.
Interviewer: Jon, this is another milestone for you. You’ve now defended the heavyweight title. There’s been a lot of talk about the future—whether or not you’ll fight a super fight with Alex Pereira, or fight Tom Aspinall, or retire after this fight. I know we’d all love to see you keep going. How do you feel right now?
Jon Jones: You know what? While I have the moment, with everybody cheering and so happy, I want to acknowledge Jesus Christ. I tell you what, man, I cannot take credit for a gift like this. I really owe it all to Him. I know there are millions of people around the world watching right now, and I just want to let you guys know that Jesus loves you so much. That’s all I’ll say about that.
As far as my future in the Octagon, I’ve decided that maybe I will not retire. I have some conversations to have with Dana and Hunter, and we have some negotiating to do. If everything goes right, maybe we’ll give you guys what you want to see.
Interviewer: And what would that be? Is that heavyweight, or is that Alex Pereira at heavyweight? What are you thinking?
Jon Jones: You know, I know we have options. So I’m just going to see what Dana, Uncle Dana, and Uncle Hunter want. And you guys will hear about it soon, I’m sure.
Jon Jones: I also want to say a big, big thank you to President Donald Trump for being here tonight. Can I get a “Oh yeah”?
Crowd cheers.
Jon Jones: Hey, what do you guys think about my version of Donald Trump? Check it out: USA! USA! Let’s go!
Crowd cheers.
Jon Jones: That’s what I like! I’m proud to be a great American champion. I’m proud to be a Christian American champion.
Interviewer: Well, Jon, as always, it was an honor to call your fight. Whatever you do next, I can’t wait. I’ll be here for it. Congratulations, sir, the greatest of all time.
Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, Jon Jones!“
Jones in the end will surely go down not only as the best fighter of all time but one of the most unique stories ever not just in professional sport, but in humanity.
A very rare, special human being that will take some time for the history books after he is gone to recognize just how great, and genius, he was — and is.
The fact he is in his prime now at 37 and was really out of shape this weekend shows you how much ability he still ahs to show in the future too.
The Michael Jordan of fighting, without question, Jon Jones.
